We just returned from our week long stay at Villa Andara and I must say, this is truly one majestic piece of property. From the moment you arrive, you will be in awe of the view. It is obvious from the moment you step foot on the property, that the owner's put very careful planning into creating the perfect paradise. Everything from the floor plan, decor, view, towels, dishes, etc....you name it, they thought of it. No matter how many activities you plan for your trip, you will end up spending most of your time at this villa, it is just that peaceful and truly allows you to get away. There is however, one thing that quite frankly, I'm shocked has not been mentioned on the reviews for this place. Holy mosquito! They were everywhere. I'm a native to the Texas coast, and I'm definitely used to mosquitos, but there were a lot. I will say the owners provide citronella candles and electric swatters; however, the candles had been completely burned up and were not much use. We ended up getting bug spray at the local store and we had to cover ourselves in the stuff just to sit outside in the morning and evening. There were only about 4 hours a day that we were able to truly enjoy the veranda and pool without getting tore up. Every window and door of the villa is screened in, but inevitably, they find there way into the villa. If you don't get them all swatted before bedtime, they just feast on you. I probably had no less than 50-60 bites by the trips end. I'm not sure if it was the time of year or abnormally low wind that caused this, but it was definitely a nuisance. It truly may have just been the lack of wind, as we were not able to sail the day we charted a boat which is highly unusual for that area. This is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. At any rate, mosquito's aside, our family really enjoyed our stay at the Andara. We covered the whole island, and I honestly don't think there is a better view on it. I would absolutely go back in a heartbeat to this villa, would just need to practice my JJ Watt swat before I go. Thank you for sharing this beautiful place with our family.
We spent a glorious week at the Villa Andara and it really was like being on our own private island. We were a group of six professionals with intense and high pressure jobs who have difficulty disconnecting from the world but this place made us forget about the rest of the world and give in to the beauty and peace of the island. The owners have thought of every little detail for this incredible compound in the middle of paradise. From every point in the house there are sweeping views of Tortola and the rest of the USVI. The skies are so clear at night that we've never seen so many stars, including a shooting star. (If you have an iPad download the SkyView app to match up the constellations!) And the only sounds were from the Coqui - these little frogs that chirp through the night. We were completely isolated and didn't miss a thing! Every luxury and convenience was considered for this house. The chef's kitchen and the outdoor grill are all high end which was a special treat for me as I enjoy baking and cooking. Every kitchen gadget you can think of is there including a waffle iron and stand mixer! We piped music all throughout the house, including my favorite spot in the outdoor gazebo where my husband enjoyed the outdoor TV and the ability to keep up with Super Bowl news. The house is a short drive to Coral Bay which has a decent market and some really tasty, casual restaurants. We ate twice at the Skinny Legs because of their amazing burgers. And we also recommend the Shipwreck Landing for a wonderful seafood dinner. We were a group of six and spent our week with a combination of day trips around St. John alternating with days lounging around the pool. One highlight of our trip was a hike to Brown Bay - about a 5 minute drive from the house - and snorkeling afternoon including a walk through some sugar mill ruins. Within a few minute drive there are lots of little spots for snorkeling, kayaking and beaching on the East End. I encourage you to drive past Vie's beach farther down the road for some amazing snorkeling. We did make it to Cruz Bay for dinner one night at the restaurant at Caneel Bay. Don't get me wrong, it was lovely, but we all missed the peace and quiet of the Villa Andara. Staring out at the ocean just seems to never get old. I will never forget stirring in the early morning hours and lifting my head off the pillow to be greeted by turquoise ocean and a striking view of Tortola. We can't wait to go back!
I had the privilege of a visit to Andara Villa for eight blissful nights. My family was blown away by the beauty of this home and surroundings. The home is a work of art, and pictures (and a verbal description) cannot do it justice. Also, the nature that surrounds the house:the birds, the flowers, the coconut and banana trees, create a tranquil environment to relax. This villa is equipped with any amenity one could imagine. There were more televisions (and bathrooms) than people. Even pool floats and toys were included. Plenty of beach chairs and coolers and even a beach bag for each of us was also included. We especially enjoyed the outdoor living space in the afternoons. This vacation was a dream come true, and I highly recommend this villa. The only bad experience was having to say good bye.
I have stayed at many villa during my travels to St John, Villa Andara was the most amazing and beautiful villa.
Wonderfully quiet, completely furnished property. The villa had everything one would require for a great vacation. I highly recommend this property.
Our party had a wonderful time at Andara Villa. The location afforded us a grand view of Tortola. The villa was the most complete we have ever experienced on St. John. We hope to be able to return next year.
The landscape, wild life and hospitality of the locals made this vacation fantastic.
Everything was perfect and exceeded our expectations. The pool was a little cold for some of our group but refreshing for others. A pool cleaning mid-week would also be useful.
Andara is perfection, we could not think of a thing to change. Pictures just do not do this place justice. When you first stand at the top of the driveway it's hard to breathe. The panoramic view cannot be put on film. The quality of everything in the home was top notch down to the Tommy Bahama beach chairs with backpack straps. Everything was so well thought out with the quality of our experience at the bottom line. We know the island very well and knew exactly where this home was located but we want new people to understand how far this villa is away from town. It is a 40 minute drive on winding roads at night. This did not bother us one bit but we feel this may be a surprise to others less experienced in St.John travel. Coral Bay has wonderful restaurants so we went to Cruz Bay just three nights. All in all we had a fabulous time and would recommend Andara 100%. T,K,D,S,R,&B from St.Peters,St.Charles,St.Louis, Missouri and Jacksonville, Illinois
The photographs online looked great before we booked, but they definitely don't do the villa justice in person! The place is a trek from Cruz Bay, but extremely private (exactly what we were hoping for). We definitely found plenty of use for our 4WD vehicle and Off Bug Spray, but outside of that we could not have asked for a better place to spend the last week of our honeymoon. WHEN we return to St. John, we certainly would love to stay at Andara Villa again!
