Caribbean Jewels exceeded our expectations in size and decor. We had based our choice on the proximity to the North Shore Beaches, the gorgeous Coral Bay view, and having the master on the main floor with an open layout. The villa is lovely and furnished with very good towels and linens, a very comfortable king bed downstairs, plenty of dishes, big, thick beach towels and new, light beach chairs. The website photos are very accurate. The grill is different from the pictures but works well. The living area and deck furniture is new and very comfortable. The pool area stayed sunny until around three and the the water was refreshingly cool, but approachable. We don't watch much TV but did enjoy the Sirius Radio. Although we found we didn't need it at night or most other times, the air conditioning in the master suite worked well. Six ceiling fans and many open windows kept the great room comfortable. The view is exceptionally beautiful! The narrow road was not a joy, but it was not a surprise, and the rough unpaved section is short. I must say that turning onto Callaloo Rd for the first time is something like diving off the edge of the earth and not knowing if the net is there! There had been rumors about complaining neighbors, but we did not see nor hear from them. Our daily pool time was usually between two and four; we did not play music there, and our voices were kept at a normal conversational level. There is also one house just below Caribbean Jewels but we only heard an occasional car passing by and the faint sound of children in the pool. The landscape provides well for visual privacy.
My wife and I traveled to St. John in December 2013. I had researched several villas, but, based upon the view, I chose Caribbean Jewels. The rental company was very responsive and helpful prior to the trip. They offered to stock the villa prior to arrival; however, we did not use that service. It really was no problem to shop for groceries at Cruz Bay; however, we really appreciated the specialty food gift left in the villa for our arrival. To begin, the villa is really spacious - it would be best for 4-5 individuals since the sofa in the living room would fold out. It was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The view from the lanai was absolutely breathtaking, especially with sunrise and with incoming rain. Water pressure was good and conservation is recommended, but, the villa does have a dishwasher and washer/dryer. Since previous reviews, some improvements must have been made because it seemed to be in appropriate shape. Sure, there were signs of aging on the outside; however, it resides on the side of a mountain overlooking Coral Bay. We were happily surprised by its proximity to the north shore beaches. It is extremely close to Maho Bay, Watermelon Bay, and Annaberg ruins. It is also very convenient to East End and Salt Pond. We found North Shore road to be an easier (and much more scenic) route to Cruz Bay than Centerline Road. The pool area was clean and the pool was nice. I can imagine that it would be really nice for kids following a morning at the beach or hiking and during a hot summer. There were a few "obstacles"., the road to the villa is a bit of a challenge; however, with your jeep it is not a problem and you will be rewarded with the great view and location. Second, the phones were completely out during our stay, so, make sure that you take a cell phone, preferably with AT&T since that is the company that really services the island. We had phone service and sometimes 4G or LTE even on beaches. That being said, make sure roaming is off because in some places you will be up the BVI service (international roaming). Third, probably because the phones were out, the satellite TV service only worked in the living room. However, did you really go to a beautiful Caribbean island to watch TV? Internet is good but not optimal for video. Overall, I readily recommend this location and I would return.
The service that met us to take us to our villa was very accommodating. She provided us with directions as to where we could pick up provisions prior to arriving at our villa. When we arrived we had a beautiful gift basket waiting for us. This was a nice touch to the start of our vacation in St John. The villa. AWESOME. As pictured and all amenities to make your stay comfortable were at the villa. The view.Attention to detail seemed to have been the owners concern for the guests who visited Caribbean Jewels. Cannot put into words the view !! The drive. My husband drove us everywhere and the main word is slow.. it really wasn,t that bad after a few trips just differs from the states and our big highways. Highly recommend many of the restaurants in Coral Bay laid back and close to the villa. And of course Ms. Lucy's! We did take a sailing trip with Survivan and highly recommend this skipper. He was on time for our excursion and willing to do whatever we wanted for our charter. IT was a wonderful vacation. The beaches, snorkeling and the hikes ... Hope to return someday and visit the beautiful island again. And we would contact Destination St. John for accommodations again.
